Annual green card capacity likely reached early

On Behalf of | Sep 1, 2022 | Employment Immigration Visas

Those in line for getting or renewing a Green Card often need to pay attention to Visa Bulletins sent out monthly. These announcements can help applicants track changes in protocols, regulations or deadlines. It will say that a green card is now available to applicants waiting to submit their paperwork. Failure to apply when applicants are qualified risks eligibility to do it the following months.

September bulletin speaks of early limit for FY 2022

September is the final month of the government’s fiscal year (FY). However, the September Visa Bulletin indicated that the employment-based green cards would likely not be available all the way to September 30 because the United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Department of State (DOS) anticipate reaching the green card employment totals early. While applicants can apply in fiscal year 2023, which starts October 1, 2022, not getting the card in September may be a problem for those told to apply in FY 2022.

The USCIS and DOS are well aware of the problem, yet they intend to issue as many green cards as are available. They did initiate certain measures to ensure that no visa goes unused before reaching the cap.

It’s not too late to get help

Those planning on getting a new green card in September of 2022 should contact an immigration law attorney to determine the best course of action for successfully securing the visa before the government hits its cap.
